Just a few things I’m grateful for lately.
- When a mentor comes to listen and support me at my gig
- When audience members give the music their full attention
- When band leaders make set-lists
- I’m playing more than ever, financially stable, and deeply in love with music. The ideas I’m exploring on the podcast really work.
- Well kept house kits
- Front of venue parking (FOVP)
- When friends spend their night off supporting you at your gig
- The gentleman who dropped mad cash for us to play Ellington (ofc we would’ve played Duke for free, but it was nice surprise since normally the big money requests are silly tunes)
- The young dude who cried while we played I’d Rather Go Blind and said “you made me think of my mom”
- When someone sends you an album rec and you know it was a personal gesture because it’s exactly your taste
- Thoughtful post-gig compliments
- When horn players let the drummer pick a tune
- My patreon supporters <3
- When the venue owner cares about you as a person and makes an effort to get to know you
- Musicians tipping each other even when we’re just scraping by
