Drew Tucker – vibraphone maven, social entrepreneur, and educator – and I talk about marching band education, taking the untraditional route, questions we should be asking our students, the elements of “good technique”, weighing aesthetics vs musicality, booking your own gigs, learning to be yourself, and vibraphone players probs.
If you really want to be a band director of course go into music education. Do whatever you have to do to get to that thing. But don’t do it because you’re scared of the uncertainty of doing what you love. To me the only way to be certain about being successful is to be on fire with passion about what you love to do because then you’ll do it, you’ll figure it out.
