Actionable Advice
- “If an older musician doesn’t like you they won’t say anything about your playing. But if they like you they’ll say something because they think you have potential.” You have now permission to feel good about yourself if an older musician takes the time to critique you on the gig.
- “It’s very difficult to put something into a vessel that’s already full. If you want to learn you have to come as an empty vessel.” It’s likely you don’t need to learn more right now. Maybe what you really need is to absorb the information you already have.
- “Art needs to be nurtured, and it needs to start at a young age.” Imagine how different the world would be if everyone was exposed to art all throughout their life!
- Reach out to your mentors! There is no time like a quarantine to get in touch (from a safe distance) with the people who have shaped your life. If this pandemic is teaching us anything it’s we don’t know how long our elders will be with us.
